Susan Carey - Principal
Susan trained for 3 years at London college of dance and Drama graduating in 1982 with the college teaching diploma in dance and other related subjects. Following graduation she went to teach in Italy.
In 1983 she returned home to Sheffield and established Susan’s Danstudio in Frecheville with 12 pupils. Susan is a fellow (hons) of the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) and was appointed an examiner of the association in 1989 upgrading to examine teachers in 1997. Susan is married to Richard and has 2 sons Adam & Ashley. Susan is extremely lively and passionate about her work and is a figure head that both students and teachers alike look up to.

 
     
 

Adam Carey
Adam started gymnastics at the age of 5 for fun. Adam is now qualified as an IDTA pre-associate teacher  of modern/jazz and is advanced in all subjects.  At age 16 he successfully auditioned for Phil Winston’s Theatreworks graduating in August 2008 from a 3 year musical theatre course. 
In May 2008 Adam was employed as an extra on the ITV show Britannia High thoroughly enjoying the experience.
In July 2008 Adam successfully auditioned for P&O Cruises and became an ensemble member of the Headliners Theatre Company onboard the P & O Oriana on a world cruise.
Adam returned to P & O for another world cruise on Aurora.  Adam brings an imaginative and athletic quality to his classes.

 
     
 

Katie Matkin
Katie started dancing with Susan’s Danstudio at the age of 3 and has assisted in classes since the age of 16. Katie is now qualified as an IDTA pre-associate teacher of Ballet. Katie is a creative and imaginative member of the teaching staff and enjoys teaching all aspects of dance.

 
     
 

Jessica McVeigh
Jessica started dancing at the age of 7 and has assisted in classes since the age of 13. She is qualified as an IDTA pre-Associate teacher of Ballet and Theatrecraft and has consistently gained 90 marks or higher in all of her major dance examinations. Jessica successfully auditioned for Phil Winston’s Theatreworks in 2006 and completed a 3 year musical theatre course. She is now venturing into the world of show business on board the P & O Aurora.Jessica is a brilliant and enthusiastic teacher who enjoys teaching every aspect of dance.

 
     
 

Leanne Rutkowski
Leanne started dancing with Susan’s Danstudio from the age of 4 and also competed for Great Britain as an international diver for 5 years. She has completed a degree in Biomedical science and is currently training to become a midwife at Sheffield Hallam university. Leanne is qualified as an Associate IDTA teacher gaining honours in 2007. She teaches exam and festival work as well as running the yearly summer school. Leanne is a vibrant member of the team and brings a passion for dance to her classes

 
     
 

Laura Smethurst
Laura has been a pupil of Susan's Danstudio since the age of 3 and is now a Pre-Associate teacher of Ballet. Laura assists in the Disco and Gym classes on Monday evenings.

 
     
 

Emma Syddall
Emma started dancing with Susan’s Danstudio at the age of 3 and has assisted in classes since the age of 16. Emma is qualified as an IDTA pre-associate teacher of Ballet. In 2006 Emma successfully auditioned for Phil Winston’s Theatreworks and  completed a 3 year musical theatre course. Emma is now performing professionally at Haven holiday sites in Devon and Cornwall for the summer season and hopes to return to teaching between contracts. Emma brings a wealth of knowledge to the teaching staff and has a particular passion for Tap.

 
     
 

Jordan Wing
Jordan is the first boy to start with Susan’s Danstudio at the age of 3 and go right the way through to 17 and start a career in dance. Assistant teacher to the boys class and a Pre-Associate teacher of Ballet. Jordan brings a wealth of charisma and athleticism to the class. Jordan successfully auditioned for Phil Winston’s Theatreworks in 2008 and is now in his 2nd year there.

 
     
 

Teaching Assistants
All our teaching assistants are current students of the school and are training for their teaching qualifications in dance.
